Life is fun

  • Dec. 3rd, 2010 at 12:44 PM
The semester has hit its climax, and lately I've been seeing little slips of paper with the following message written on them:

"Need a break from studying? Cold? Tired? Hungry? Come join us at the SFU Focus Club and hang out with friends."

Now, studying too much is not a problem I have, but I thought it was pretty cool that there's a club on campus for kids to regain their focus after cramming too hard. So I looked it up.

It's a Christian fellowship dedicated to bible study. What a sneaky, under-handed tactic. I'm going to start putting slips of paper all over school that say "Tired of learning about business, science, or math? Come hang out with the SFU Playtime Club." Then I'll give them feminist texts to read.

You should just go and hijack their meetings. Like start derailing bible time, every time.

These things have a way of self correcting. As with any type of marketing you have to know your target audience, and being unclear about their group basis is just going to lead to alot of self righteous students storming out of their meetings the first time a bible pops out.

I agree that's really a cheap shot.

A bit of Buddhist meditation in the middle of their group would help derail them too.

What baffles me is they have the nerve to call it something like a FOCUS club. That's bizzare.

You should start your own club, haha.

Pretty insightful post. Never thought that it was this simple after all. I had spent a good deal of my time looking for someone to explain this subject clearly and you’re the only one that ever did that. Kudos to you! Keep it up

Half way through reading your description I was already thinking it was some Christian Bible study group. All the years of living in Surrey and receiving their leaflets and pamphlets distributed around Surrey Central has made me quite acquainted with their subterfuge.

I am very much still my crossing fingers that you will make a SFU Playtime Club!

this journal is full of whining, nerdiness, mediocre photography and self-portraiture. it's self-indulgent and self-absorbed, but not particularly candid.
my photo posts are public, so feel free to add me, but i'll only be adding people i know as friends.
